Graduation in Zambia

I received this letter and pictures from Matthew Daka as they celebrate the graduation of 7 pastors in his district. They worked hard for 4 years to complete the course. Some completed the studies but not the course. The course includes planting a new church and personally discipling 3 other men in the Word of God. Praise the Lord for their diligence and hard work to the Glory of God. -Jeff Hawkins, HBM Zambia Coordinator

Dear Brother Jeff,
Praise be to God for his mercy and love which he has given to us through his beloved Son even our Lord Jesus Christ. We had a good time with the brothers this morning December 19, 2015 celebrating the completion of studies by our brothers in Lusaka North. Despite the heavy rainfall, the graduating pastors with their wives came to the venue at Victors Family Bible church. I have been with the men since May 2011. When we started, the men were 15 in number but some of them could not finish the training. However, 7 of them completed the training and  five graduated. We lost one of the men last month as he went to be with the Lord.

Thank you for your continued prayer as HBMZ and HBM USA strive to train men in the Word of God so as to be pastors who teach sound doctrine from the precious Word of God.

From: Matthew Daka, HBMZ Administrator

The year 2015 of our Lord is fast approaching the end. As I look back at what the Lord has done for HBMZ, I want first of all to say many thanks to all who have supported us. You, our donors in the US, have been a blessing to all our pastors and many Christians here in Zambia. HBMZ is grateful to all the donors who have been giving to HBM US who are our partners. Your blessings have made it possible for us to buy Bibles, print and ship training manuals from South Africa to Zambia, supply motorbikes to our pastors as well as bicycles.

The Word of God and Eternal LIFE

Death in Zambia comes early for many. It is only in recent few years that life expectancy has risen from 38 yrs to 52 years.
Last week one of our pastors in training, Alifara Phiri, passed away suddenly. He had just completed his 3 year training and was training 3 other men himself. He was a disciple of HBMZ Matthew Daka. Fellow disciple student Adrian Mutamba (pictured below) preached his eulogy and message. The visiting pastors from many other sects and denominations were very impressed with the “Bible” preaching. May the Lord use this testimony to encourage other pastors to join the training in God’s precious Word. It is the Word of God that gives us eternal LIFE and Hope.
Pray for Pastor Phiri’s family in the days ahead. It is very difficult for widows and orphans when the husband passes.

TESTIMONY from Matthew Daka, HBM Zambia Administrator

During the time I have been working with Hope Builders Ministries Zambia, I have seen many things which the Lord has done here in partnership with HBM USA and local Indigenous pastors. Much of what I am going to share is based on growth of this ministry.

1. Discipleship and Pastoral Training
Hope Builders Ministry has now reached all the 10 provinces of Zambia. Western and Eastern provinces were the last 2 provinces to be reached. In Western province, I have met Bishop James Nswana who is based in Mongu which is the capital of the province. James has started training 3 pastors in Mungu who will train others and plant new 3 churches. Initially, James was ready to start with more than 20 pastors in this province but I had to ask him to choose 3 for a start. In Eastern province, Pastor Joseph Phiri who is our Regional leader in the Northern Province has opened hubs in Petauke, Chipata and Lundazi. The training of pastors in this province is going on well.

As HBMZ Administrator, I want to testify that the demand for enrollment of pastors who want to be trained has multiplied. I have been receiving requests from all the districts in Zambia from our pastors who are being asked to start receiving new pastors for training. Some churches in the villages are asking their pastors to train with HBMZ as they are not willing to be led by untrained pastors.

All the pastors who started training in 2012 and 2013 now have 3 disciples each in training. Apart from training their 3 men, these pastors are teaching the members of their congregation what they are learning. In some villages, even headmen have been converted and many people are being saved daily because of what HBMZ through these men are doing. I thank God for the wonderful training materials which our pastors are receiving from Hope Builders Ministries USA.

2. Church Planting and Bible Distribution
As a result many called out men being trained, I have seen and bear testimony to the multiplication of many Bible believing churches in all our districts. In Muchinga province for instance, Pastor Fighton Chilufya, one of the district leaders, has reported to me that more than 100 churches have been started. Brother Fighton is based in Mpika which is one of the largest districts in Zambia. Many people who live in these remote areas are so poor and their way of life is different from those who live in towns. HBMZ is focused to planting many Bible believing churches in these rural areas.

Our greatest challenge is Bibles for pastors who are being trained. Hope Builders Ministries USA has been helping us to give Bibles to the pastors who are being trained. However, I as the National Administrator, I have noted that the demand for Bibles is so huge. DONATE

During the month of June this year, Brother Jeff (HBM Zambia Coordinator) and 2 other American Brothers will be visiting us. We shall have Bible teaching Conferences in 3 provinces, namely, Central, Copperbelt and Northwestern. We also plan to give Bibles to our pastors but this depends on your support. Finally, I am asking for your prayers as we travel on our Zambian roads which are bad more especially in the remote areas.

Thank you so much for everything you have been doing in supporting us.

3. Testimony From Kallen Musonda – Kitwe
Ever since I joined Hope Builders Ministries, my mind set has been changed and challenged for better. Before, I was limited to my local church and denomination only, but now I have been challenged through the training to think of all Zambia and even the world and look at the work of God on a much broader perspective, going beyond the 4 corners of the church and disciple people.

After the change in my perception of the work of God, the local church that God has given me the responsibility to pastor and oversee his people started growing spiritually and numerically. It is true Brothers, “you grow a pastor, and you grow a church.” The growth of a pastor is an increasing blessing to the local church and the Kingdom of God. Hope Builders Ministries will never make the local church go down; it will always make the work of God grow. Let us do our part, God is ready to do his part and the result will always be amazing.

Hope Builders Ministries Zambia is an indigenous ministry in Zambia with a mission to train pastors in the Word of God and provide biblical strategy to multiply disciples of Christ through the country and the world.

Hope Builders Ministries is partnered with HBMZ to provide resources (bible training, bibles, bicycles, motorcycles, business loans, Dignity Project support) to help them declare the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Zambia and neighboring countries.

Thank you for your SUPPORT and prayers!

Zambia Pastor Training

In June Pastor Jeff Hawkins, Pastor Steven Slater and Travis Milner will be joining the HBMZambia team training pastors in 6 conferences in the Central, Copperbelt and Northwestern Provinces. We are expecting 400 to 600 rural pastors to attend. The teachings will focus on the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, His life and ministry from His birth to His ascension and what it means to our salvation and our daily lives.

This will be a 4 week trip and cover about 2000 miles. The teaching team will live with the pastors during each of the 6 conferences.

Zambia is a developing country that continues to struggle with the averse effects of poverty and corruption. 86% of the population of over 13 million souls live below the poverty line. Over a third of the children are malnourished and 40% do not have access to clean water and proper sanitation. This is especially true in the rural areas. Education is improving but it is thought that upwards of 90% of the rural population (65% of the people) are illiterate. Many sicknesses still plague the country from malaria and cholera to AIDS.

HUB Conference and Bible DistributionZambia is also a very “Christian” country. It is strategically located in the center of Sub-Sahara Africa and landlocked between 8 other countries. Some reports have Zambia listed as 87% Christian. From my personal experience I do not see this, but Christianity does have a huge impact on this country. 25% of the Christians are considered to be evangelical. BUT the great need is Bible training. “Christian” cults like the New Apostolic Church abound. False teaching is prevalent with most congregations being influence by the “Prosperity Gospel.” Many are preaching false gospels and motivate by money and selfishness.

Because of the lack of good Bible training superficiality and ignorance abound in the church. “Too few know the Word of God and how to live the Christian life.”

Zambia District LeadersThis is why Hope Builders Ministries has partnered with indigenous pastors to form Hope Builders Ministries Zambia. This indigenous led ministry has a vision to “saturate Zambia with Bible believing churches who have trained pastors.” Since 2007 HBM has shepherded the training of thousands of pastors and helped plant over 2000 new churches. HBMZambia has now taken the lead in training more pastors and planting more churches. Over 1500 pastors are being trained in a discipleship model by fellow pastors who have received the 3 year bible training from HBM.

HIMAfrica/Jeff Hawkins has partnered with HBMZ to provide the resources their pastors need for Bible training and ministry. The Bible Conferences are supplemental training and an encouragement to the brothers who are thankful for the help from their American brothers and sisters.

We are asking God to provide $15,000 to fund the pastor conferences in June and purchase 600 study Bibles for the attendees.  Give here or mail to Hope Builders Ministries, POBox 317, Greenwood, VA 22943

You can contact Jeff@HIMAfrica.com for more information. Jeff is available to speak in your church or small group by appointment.
