Inductive Bible Study Methods

May 2016 Pastors Conference in Zambia
Teaching Inductive Bible Study Methods

Training the indigenous pastors is the heart and mission of Hope Builders Ministries Zambia. Jeff Hawkins (Hope Builders Ministries USA) organized a Bible Study Methods seminar for May 22-28. 48 first and second level leaders from HBMZ gathered in Musenga outside of Chingola, Zambia for 4 days of study. Pastor Dan Finfrock with Intensive Care Ministries was our guest speaker and trainer.

The men were generally overwhelmed with the amount of information given to properly study the Word. This, however, also opened the door for a deeper awareness of the need to study the Word Inductively. HBM and HBMZ has always taught the importance of Inductive Bible Study Methods but this is the first intentional and in depth seminar on “HOW” to do that. It is our desire to make this an integral part of the 3 year curriculum for all the pastoral students.

Thank you for praying with us and for us as we partner with Indigenous Missions in Africa training pastors in the Word of God.

The Hawkins are returning to India in March. The purpose is to meet with Stephen and Prabhukiran to encourage them in their work. We will also sponsor and participate in two leadership conferences. The ministry in India continues to grow by the Grace of God as Hope Builders Ministries partners to equip, encourage and empower the indigenous church there. Leadership training and disciple making in the congregations is the focus. The strengthened and encouraged church is equipped to share the Gospel effectively and better able to take care of the needs of their poor. Hope Builders Dignity Projects partner with the churches in this as well.

You can help Jeff and Lou Ann on this mission by praying and giving and sharing with your friends. Be an Advocate for the Work in India. Thank you!

Equipping Pastors in the WORD

Equipping Pastors in the WORD

India has thousands of Christians, yet they are a small fraction of the population. Most are very poor but they are rich in Jesus Christ. Their impact is great, just as all believer’s can be, because we are Ambassadors for Christ. HIMIndia’s mission is to partner with them in the Great Commission to “make disciples” as Jesus has commanded us to do. The most effective way to fulfill that is for US to help them by equipping them in the Word of God, encouraging them in their relationship with God and empower-ing them by letting them do the work!

HIMIndia Trip Report

From February 17 to March 25 I had the privilege of conducting 12 pastor seminars in three states (Telanga, Andhra Pradesh and Orrisa). Over 1000 pastors attended. Our goal was to encourage these rural, independent pastors in the Word of God. The vast majority have had no biblical training and are doing the best they know how in preaching and shepherding God’s flock.

The seminars began with an hour session on the authority and the essential central necessity of the Word of God in Christian life and ministry. Without the written Word we would not know who Jesus Christ is and that HE is the revelation of God. The second session dealt with the essence of faith. What is the faith that “pleases God?” Faith in God’s Word. The first day ended with the challenge of our mission, “why are we here?” WE are here to “make disciples of everyone, everywhere until Jesus returns.” This is what we are to be doing until He comes back. Everything we do must flow out of our obedience to this command. And, importantly, to make disciples we must be disciples. We must be people who have died to everything, especially “self.” Otherwise we are not His disciples and can not reproduce true disciples.

This first day of teaching had a tremendous effect on many of these dear men. The Holy Spirit convicted them and their response was a genuine repentance concerning the way they had been doing ministry, focusing on buildings and worship services and prayer meetings and healing services and crusades/revivals that mainly satisfied or “entertained” the church, but did not win souls who became disciples of Jesus Christ. (These are their words!)  I was so reminded of the “educated” church in America focusing inwardly on itself in the same way with massive budgets to “keep the doors open.”

The second day would begin with a session on basic inductive Bible study methods. The ABCs. This was to help them to dig into the Word and be workmen who need not be ashamed when the Chief Shepherd returns, because they handled the Word accurately and “cut it straight.” Then two sessions followed on the 1st Justification (Romans 4, the Gift of eternal life) and the 2nd Justification (James 2, the Prize of eternal rewards) and ending up with “Are you ready for the Judgment Seat of Christ?”

The result has been an outpouring of desire to be trained in God’s Word. Many confessed that they had no idea what the Bible actually taught and wanted to be instructed. Our brothers, Stephen Prasad, Prabhu Kiran and Prabin Spika, are now busy organizing these brothers and many more who are hearing about this training for studies and mentoring in the three year Bible training program.

In the past three years HIMIndia has experience an overwhelming response. This response requires a mutual response from us.

Will you pray and ask God if He would have you partner with HIMIndia in meeting this challenge, this need? These pastors desire and need training. Christ’s church requires trained pastors, men who have been mentored and discipled in the Word of God. Seminary training would be nice, but it is a luxury they can not afford. HIMIndia bridges the gap. Will you help?

The basic need to support pastoral training is $1500 in each of the three states per month. $4500 total. HIMIndia has set a goal of $5000 per month. This provides 10% to HBM who provide all the administrative needs from this end (fund transfers, website, giving gateways, tax accountability, auditing, bookkeeping, etc).

This will help to train thousands of pastors.

Pray and Participate in this effective ministry.

Thank you
Jeff Hawkins
